Something seems to radiate from the full moon, illuminating Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama.
The bridge crosses the Katsura River, with the mountains behind it. The bamboo has a warm, yellowish color that I associate with Kyoto. In the foreground, a willow tree moves gently in the wind.
Willows have long been associated with Kyoto’s hanamachi, where they were traditionally planted near entrances, almost as if marking the boundary between the everyday world and another one. Their leaves moving in the wind can feel both mysterious and melancholic.
Maybe that is why seeing a willow brings me a sense of nostalgia. It seems to carry both a mysterious and a warm wind. In my mind, that feeling becomes pink.
Pink is the color I associate with Kyoto.
The moon, bridge, river, mountains, bamboo, and willow come together in a familiar Kyoto landscape transformed by vivid pink, becoming something dreamlike, as if the landscape has briefly opened into another world.
