Small navy dots spread from the full moon into the night, expressing something I cannot quite put into words.
They are not meant to represent moonlight itself. I wanted to leave open what they might be, as if something is quietly spreading from the moon into the night.
The full moon illuminates Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama, while a willow gently sways in the wind. Moonlight reflects across the Katsura River, and the mountains covered in Kyoto’s golden bamboo seem to glow beneath the moon.
For me, the mysterious and warm feeling of Kyoto becomes pink.
The moon, bridge, river, mountains, bamboo, and willow come together, as if the landscape has briefly opened into another world.
I hope this painting gives you a moment to step beyond the everyday and into another world.
