The Comfort of What Stays

There's a comfort in returning to the same place.

The same buildings, the same trees, the same quiet corner of Hakone, untouched, unchanged. Somehow, that's what puts me at ease.

On my usual walk, there's a stray cat who always shows up around the same time. It doesn't come close to anyone else. But somehow, it always comes to find me. So cute.

I think about the people in our lives who are like that too, the ones who always pick up the phone, who listen, who somehow get it every time. A presence you can count on. It's a rare thing, and maybe that's exactly why it feels so precious.

Everyone is busy. People drift apart, even without meaning to. But with a painting, there's a conversation with the artist who made it.

There is comfort in having something we can always count on, and in creating spaces where we can feel at ease.
